Headmaster of Khurai Popular High School Haorungbam Tombapu was pulled up by volunteers of DESAM on the charge of reportedly deducting money from the salaries of four assistant teachers and a grade IV employee.
The Headmaster deducted Rs 47,750 from assistant teachers Arambam Gouranityai (Rs 34,000), Angom Kamala (Rs 2000), Sapam Shantibala (Rs 4450), Loidang Pamei (500) and Rs 6,800 from grade IV employee Taorem Pathen.
With his name included in the MGEL, Gouranityai received Rs 1,37,000 for 13 months but the Headmaster deducted Rs 37,000 from the total amount, out of which a certain sum was used for the school.
As for deductions made from salaries of other staff, it were for irregularity in attending school and casual leaves.
Even as complaints were lodged with the Education Minister on the undue deduction, there was no action from the authority concerned.
Speaking to reporters on the matter, DESAM education secretary Arambam Thoithoi appealed to all concerned not to indulge in such undue deductions from salaries of teachers and also to avoid irregularity in attending schools.
Observing that there are certain lapses and irregularities in the implementation of Mid-Day Meal scheme under SSA, the DESAM functionary disclosed that it would pay special attention to the matter.
