Imphal, June 23:
A total of Rs seven lakhs and eleven thousand has been allegedly withdrawn fraudulently from the GPF account of 8 employees of the Electricity Department, Ukhrul division.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express a reliable source said that this came to light after the Accountant General wrote to the Chief Engineer of the Power Department in January this year that four employees of the Electricity Department of Ukhrul division had withdrawn their GPF account but have failed to repay the same.
On receiving this information an investigation was conducted and it was found that altogether Rs 7 lakhs, 11 thousand had been withdraw from the GPF account of eight employees by using forged documents.
All the eight employees are holding the rank of SO Grade I.The whole amount was through the Ukhrul Treasury in two bills by using forged documents, said the source and gave the bill numbers as No 39 dated 6/6/05 for a sum of Rs 3 lakhs and 60 thousand and bill No 38 dated 6/6/05 for a sum of Rs 3 lakhs and fifty three thousand.
The bills were accompanied by the sanction order purportedly issued from the Secretariat of the Power Department, said the source further.
Out of the sum of Rs 3 lakhs, 60 thousand worked out under bill No 39, a sum of Rs 71000 was withdrawn from the account of K Nabakishore, Rs 74000 from the account of Victor Duidang, Rs 1 lakh, 13 thousand was withdrawn from the account of As Lungshim while Rs 1 lakh two thousand was withdrawn from the account RS Ngateipam.
From the second bill, that is bill No 38, a sum of Rs 80,000 was withdrawn from the account of Ngathingpam, Rs 60,000 from Chonmi Muivah, Rs 1 lakh and 23 thousand from M Thotchipem and Rs 90,000 from Honmila.
The source said that one interesting part is that the amount of money of all the eight employees in their GPF account do not work up to the amount which was withdrawn fraudulently.
Following the intimation from the Accountant General to the Chief Engineer of the Power Department, the matter was passed on to the Executive Engineer of Ukhrul division, said the source and added that the EE on May 30 had intimated to the Chief Engineer that there is no record of the said 8 employees seeking withdrawal of money from their GPF account as well as no record of fund allotment.
The source further said that the aggrieved eight employees have filed a complaint to the OC in charge of Ukhrul police and urged him to take action against the cashier as well as the then DDO.
The cashier has been taken into custody, said the source further.
However when The Sangai Express contacted the OC in charge of Ukhrul police, the officer said that though he had heard of the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of the GPF money, he has not received any written complaint.
The OC further said that the cashier has not been arrested as alleged.
