Training prog for bankers held

With the objective of creating better awareness among bankers about the nuances and intricacies of Group mode of financing Self Help Groups (SHG) and Joint Liability Groups (JLG), the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur Regional Office, Imphal in association with Banker Institute of Rural Development (BIRD) Bolpur, West Bengal held a three-day residential State level training programmes for bankers and NGOs on SHG Linkage programme from January 19 to 21 at the conference hall of Diocesan Social Services Society, Archbishop's house Mantripukhri.
The first phase of the training session was inaugurated by Mercina Panmei, director, Institutional Finance, Government of Manipur in the presence of M Soren, NABARD general manager and officer-in-charge, S Kundu, DGM, BIRD Bolpur and Parhi, AGM, NABARD, a statement issued by the Deputy General Manager, NABARD informed.
The training is being attended by a total of 31 officials from different commercial banks, Manipur Rural Bank and Manipur State Co-operative Bank, it added.
Delivering the keynote address of the opening ceremony, M Soren highlighted the need for promoting and financing JLGs and SHGs for sustainable development of the people, particularly in rural areas.
He further urged the participating bankers to take full advantage of the training programme which is rarely organised in the State.
During her speech, Mercina Panmei lauded NABARD and BIRD Bolpur for organising such training programmes and also for inviting PACS officials to the same.
Participants would also get to visit successful MRB financed SHGs of the State as part of the training programme, the statement informed.
Similar programme will also be held from January 22 to 24 .
