Winger van drivers on strike

Imphal, January 20 2015:
Imphal-Dimapur Tata Winger van passenger service has halted from Tuesday following a driver was reportedly beaten by a man at Dimapur in Nagaland, prompting the drivers to protest against the incident.
Tata Winger van driver and Imphal resident Kh Ashok was manhandled by one Kito who owns a ticket counter along Golaghat road in Dimapur around 5 pm yesterday, Ranjit Meitei of All Manipur Inter-state Taxi Workers Association (AMISTWA) told reporters here.
"All drivers have resorted to an indefinite strike following the incident.
They'll go on stir until the stalemate is resolved," Ranjit said.
Ranjit alleged that Winger drivers from the state are constantly being bullied in Dimapur.
He said AMISTWA has decided not to pay any form of illegal tax while travelling to Nagaland, adding the Dimapur Municipal Council and taxi and bus unions charge Rs 500 each from every Winger van coming from Imphal.
The union leader also said now all Winger vans from Manipur will stop at Inter-state Bus Terminus, Dimapur.
Nearly 67 Winger vans are currently operating on Imphal-Dimapur road.
