Imphal, March 14 2015 :
A three-day 9th National Conference on Adolescent Health, organised by Community Medicine Departments of RIMS and JNIMS, has kick started at RIMS Jubilee hall from today.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, RIMS Director Prof Ch Arunkumar, JNIMS Director Prof M Shyamo, International Association of Adolescent Health (Geneva) president Dr Bruce Dick and Indian Association of Adolescent Health founding president Dr Prema Bali attended the inaugural function as dignitaries.
Phungzathang Tonsing while speaking at the function said that children must be given extra care during adolescence as it is the transition period through which they attain adulthood from childhood.
Saying that this is a crucial stage in everybody's life, the Minister said that parents must keep a strict vigil on the changing behaviour of their children during this period.
Dr Prema Bali said that children are usually tempted to test new things during adolescence.
As such, they might even become a drug addict if proper parenting is not given at this stage, she added.
She further said that a child's future depends on the environment with whom he/she mingles with and the care given by parents and teachers.
