Fifty volunteers today donated blood at the blood donation camp organised by the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) in association with the JNIMS Hospital, Porompat at the Blood Bank of the hospital.
The blood donation camp was organised as part of ongoing campaign of the student body with the objective of extending helping hand to the people affected by the HIV/AIDS started from March 6 last in coincide with the World Health Day.
Vice president of DESAM, Wangamayum Islamuddin said the student body took the initiative considering the importance of the blood in the conflict riddled state where clashes between the security forces and insurgents occurred apart from frequent incidents due to lack of proper traffic regulation and facing menace of HIV/AIDS due to as a consequent of drug abuse.
Even though, the state is facing shortage of blood despite its necessity as there is lack of awareness on the importance of the same for saving live of people, he observed while stressing the need for keeping habit of donating blood among the people.
He also sough co-operation from the people in the donation of blood.
