An awareness programme on techno-knowledge of agriculture and horticulture techniques was organised at Langdang village of Ukhrul district yesterday in connection with the annual seed sowing occasion of Tangkhul Nagas being conducted from April 5 to 9 .
Ukhrul Assistant AO (Horticulture) Kakchingtabam Debdutta Sharma was the chief guest of the programme organised by the village authority.
Manipur State Cooperative Bank Limited, Ukhrul Branch Manager Manikanta, Agriculture Department AO SRI expert Th Tomba and Plant Health Clinic expert Kh Nimaichand also attended the function.
Speaking at the occasion, Debdutta Sharma exhorted the villagers to make Langdang a highly productive village by implementing modern techniques in consultation with Government experts.
He also opined that SRI method of rice farming can be implemented in hill areas where there is scarcity of water.
Debdutta also said that Langdang, which is in the Siroy range, can be developed as huge garden of beautiful Siroy lilies.
Saying that Ukhrul people are flower lovers, Debdutta said that his department has deliberated with Manipur State Co-Operative Bank Limited to jointly run a programme to
produce fresh flowers.
There is also a plan to set up small export units, he added.
MSCB Ukhrul Branch Manager Manikanta assured the gathering to extend support in any endeavour.
