Imphal, September 04 2013:
The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) met today to discuss the major issues of the State which are to be listed in the Congress manifesto for Lok Sabha elections to be held next year.
According to some Congress MLAs, today's meeting was convened following a directive from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to recommend and forward some State issues for inclusion in the Congress manifesto.
Presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi, the meeting decided to forward issues like early revamping of National Highway-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) and giving special attention to Manipur among North East States in terms of developing sports infrastructure.
Although bringing early solution to controversial Indo-Myanmar border issue was also discussed, the CLP could not decide on whether to forward the same to AICC as it involves other North East States as well.
During discussion on National Food Security Ordinance, the CLP decided to fix Rs One lakh as the annual family income for selecting beneficiaries.
The meeting also decided to complete selection of beneficiaries within September month in order to implement the Ordinance from October.
Speaking to the media, Government spokesperson CAF and PD Minister M Okendra said that the CLP took a serious note on the threat posed to the territory of Manipur and added that the Centre has already been apprised of the situation on the Indo-Myanmar border.
