Imphal, September 04 2013:
MP Dr Th Meinya has requested the Government of India to expedite construction of NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam Road) and make it a all weather road.
Dr Meinya said that construction of NH-37 was started in the early part of 1960s.Even after 50 years, the 222-km long highway could not be constructed as an all weather road, he said.
Saying that BRTF/BRO sought three days time ie from August 21 to 23 to repair the worst section of the highway from Barak to Kambiron, Dr Meinya said that movement of vehicles along the highway was prohibited for these three days.
However, when around 900 trucks left Jiribam for Imphal on August 28, the said section was found in the same condition as was before August 21, he said.
On that day, a large number of trucks loaded with fertilizers, rice, cement and other essential items were heading for Imphal.
While some 100 trucks could somehow crossed the Barak-Kambiron section with much struggle, some of the trucks playing behind got stuck in the sloughy section of the NH, he added.
Dr Meinya informed the Union Government that around 800 trucks were stranded at Barak, Sibilong and Nung Dolan.
Meanwhile, Dr Meinya pledged support to the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill 2011 .
