Thoubal, January 04 2017:
A clash broke out at around 6 pm today between workers of Th Radheshyam, intending BJP candidate from Heirok AC and MPP president Sovakiran at Ukhongshang Mayai Leikai, Thoubal.
Workers of Th Radheshyam were organising a public meeting at the residence of one Radheshyam at Ukhongsang Mayai Leikai in connection with the ensuing Assembly election today.
Sovakiran along with his escorts allegedly came and vandalised all the arrangements.
His escorts also allegedly pushed 4 vehicles belonging to the workers of Radheshyam into the drainage and fired several rounds of bullets.
After the alleged attack, Radheshyam's supporters tried to storm into the residence of MPP president Sovakiran but were stopped by the police who fired about two-three rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the supporters.
A public meeting against the attack was organised at Ukhongsang Makha Leikai ground attended by Radheshyam himself.
The public meeting resolved to boycott the MPP president, demand suspension of his escorts within 24 hours and to let Sovakiran compensate for the losses incurred.
Defending his action, MPP president Sovakiran said the locals of Ukhongsang village had resolved to ban election related activities like organising feasts and other merriment in the village last November.
"Radheshyam and his workers violated the agreement.
Election related activities cannot be held in the area in the future too", he added.
