Tamenglong, January 04 2017:
Most of the Government offices remained closed today at Tamenglong district headquarters following the intensification of picketing carried out by volunteers of the United Naga Council (UNC) .
As the volunteers disrupted the functioning of Government offices employees left their respective work places.
The offices of the Deputy Commissioner and the Autonomous District Council (ADC) were seen locked.
There was no report of any untoward incident during the picketing.
On December 28 last, the Naga people's consultation under the banner of the United Naga Council (UNC) held in Senapati had resolved to launch 'democratic picketing' of State Government offices in 'Naga districts' from midnight of December 31, 2016 and prevent the district administration from functioning.
This additional mode of agitation was launched even as the ongoing economic blockade continues.
Educational institutions, medical services, and power sector are being exempted from the picketing acivities.
SENAPATI : Suspected supporters of the UNC's economic blockade and other modes of protest tried to set afire the DIC office and Social Welfare Office located at Senapati district headquarters at around 9.15 last night by hurling Molotov cocktails.
According to information culled from the spot, a group of people first hurled around 10 Molotov cocktails at the DIC office complex.
Then they made a similar attack at the Social Welfare office.
Security personnel deployed at nearby areas doused the fire before it could inflict any major damage.
Notably, around 11 persons were injured in a crackdown by security forces when a group of people tried to storm Senapati DC office complex yesterday.
