Chumfut celebrated

Imphal, January 04 2017:
Chumfut, festival of Tangkhul tribe, was celebrated with gaiety at Khongban Tangkhul village, Kangpokpi district today.
Chumfut is a post-harvest festival which is celebrated to mark the storage of food grains in traditional granary.
Chairman of Khongban Tangkhul village Victor Ramson said that the main highlight of the festival is the dance competition.

He added that the festival is also usually participated by the people of adjoining villages.
Muinao Marinah, who was participating in the festival said that communal harmony should be promoted by people of all the communities.
Giving an example of the importance of love and unity, Muinao Marinah stated that adjoining villagers would help one another in times of need irrespective of the caste and creed.
Stating that communal tension is created by people with vested interests, Muinai Marinah said that people should learn to live in harmony and promote the feeling of oneness.
