Imphal, January 04 2017:
All Meitei Club Organisation Manipur (AMCOM) has demanded the State Government not to include areas belonging to Meitei community and reserved forest area secured under Manipur State Darbar Act, 1932 in the boundary of Kangpokpi district.
In a statement issued to the press today, the organisation warned of launching different forms of intense agitation in case the Government fails to make the declaration within January 7 .
AMCOM reiterated that it had cautioned the Government against any possible harm that may be caused to the villages concerned, farm and forest land belonging to the community by the creation of the district.
Inspite of the fact that the areas of the Meitei people are protected under Manipur State Darbar Act, 1932, the Government declared Kangpokpi as a district on December 8 last year threatening the areas of the Meitei community, it said.
The organisation mentioned that the Government's decision has the potential to cause rift amongst the different communities of the State.
The Government should have made the public the boundary demarcation of the newly created districts.
The decision to create seven new districts was done by violating people's Constitutional rights, it added.
Saying that AMCOM respects identity, integrity and culture of all the communities, the organisation pledged to thwart any move that may threaten the existence of Meitei community.
AMCOM also condemned the excesses committed by Manipur police against the people who were protesting against the inauguration of a police station at Leimakhong on January 3, 2016 .
