Traffic Police unit set up for Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, October 23 2020: A Traffic Police unit for Kangpokpi was set up today during a joint meeting on road safety at the Conference Hall of the SP office.

The joint meeting was attended by representatives of Kangpokpi Town Committee led by its chairman Lunseh Kipgen, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization led by president Hekim Hangshing, Kangpokpi Youth Union led by its president Haolet Khongsai, TSA Sadar Hills, Zillai, Gangte Students' Organization, All Manipur Gorkha Students' Union (CC) and Kalapahar Unit, USYC, Kalapahar Gorkha Youth Association and Keithelmanbi Youth Association.

The meeting was also attended by officials of ADC Sadar Hills, DTO Kangpokpi and other police officers.

The meeting minutely deliberated on the menace of traffic violations and importance of traffic regulation which was also strongly emphasized earlier by various CSOs including TSA Sadar Hills.

During the meeting, Lalminlen Misao, MPS, Addl SP (Ops) was made the Nodal Officer for road safety while Traffic Police wing has been set up under the supervision of Sony G Sang, MPS, DSP Headquarters.

Suspension of licence of traffic violators, under aged driving, drunken driving, registering challan on traffic violators, to tie up with Chief Medical Officer for emergency medical services especially during road accident, to approach NHIDCL and BIPL for road safety aid, etc.

were also discussed during the meeting.

The traffic police wing shall be staffed with 15 police personnel including two ASIs, three Head Constables, seven police Constables and three VDF personnel and will be supervised by DSP Headquarters under Addl SP (Ops) as the Nodal Officer.

Speaking to media persons, the newly posted SP, PG Singsit (IPS) said that it is very important to be aware of the menace created by traffic violations.

Adhering to road safety protocols can help save lives, prevent accidents and injuries, and keep a society functioning in the most optimal way, he added.

He also said that a little carelessness or impatience can lead to serious mishaps and hence it is better for all to stick tp the rules strictly.

The IPS officer further said that as responsible citizens, all need to improve road safety.

It is better for all to respect and follow the rules that are put forward as they are created for the safety and welfare of the people said the police officer and added that all the road safety rules and regulations make driving a better experience.

The SP also appealed the people of Kangpokpi and the civil society organizations to extend cooperation and support towards the initiative to promote road safety.

A WhatsApp group on road safety was also created where police personnel and CSOs can exchange information and ideas on road safety.
