Kangpokpi, October 23 2020:
Strongly condemning the alleged atrocities committed by personnel of Saikul Police Station upon 'innocent' villagers of Saikul area especially Molkon, Naphai and its adjoining areas, the Thadou Youth Association (TYA) Kangpokpi District warned that if any untoward incident arises in future Saikul police must be held responsible for it.
Henminlen Hangshing, president, TYA Kangpokpi District claimed that Saikul police are allegedly committing atrocities against innocent villagers of the Saikul region in Kangpokpi district regarding the demolition of Kuki Rebellion 1917-1919 Memorial Stone at C Aisan on October 17 .
He recalled that in the aftermath of the demolition of Kuki Rising or Anglo-Kuki War Monolith, villagers of Saikul area who had been implicated with the wreckage of the stone had to scatter with great sorrow inside deep jungle at night when the police 'assailed' the villages.
He also said that some of the irate girls, who were accountable for the annihilation of the memorial stone, uploaded a video on social media, drawing everyone's attention.
Enraged over the atrocities of the police, the Thadou Youth Association Kangpokpi rescued the girls and provided them accommodation, he said.
TYA condemned the atrocities committed by the law enforcement agency against the 'innocent' villagers and warned Saikul Police Station to bear responsibility if any untoward incidents occur in the future upon the innocent girls and their families.
Meanwhile, the Thadou Students' Association Kangpokpi District handed over the girls to their respective family members at Kangpokpi DHQs in the presence of KYU and KWWO, today.
