Foundation day of MEELAL held

Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yumnam Khemchand has urged the people of the State to work together for the preservation and development of Meitei Mayek .
The Speaker expressed this while speaking at the 14th foundation day of Meitei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) organised at GM hall today .
The Speaker, MEELAL president Th Babulchand, Language Planning and Implementation Director, Dr L Mahabir, COHSEM Secretary Dr Meisnam Bidyasagar and KM Blooming Higher Secondary School founder Kh Major attended the event as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively .
Speaking at the event, Babulchand explained that Meitei Mayek began to be taught to students from class I of various schools in Manipur from the year 2006 .
He also expressed optimism at the possibility of Meitei Mayek being included in higher secondary and graduate level syllabus .
Babulchand said that various steps would be taken up to ensure the expansion of Meitei Mayek such as inclusion of the language in all hoardings, posters and sign boards and even inscribing vehicle registration numbers with Meitei Mayek .
However, the most important achievement will be the inclusion of Meitei Mayek in the currency note of the country, he said adding that the feat will be possible only with the collective efforts of the people and the State Government .
He also urged the State Government and the authority concerned to take up necessary measures to change the 'written in Bengali script' to 'written in Meitei Mayek' of the Manipur Language Act 1979 .
MEELAL volunteers, Sanaleibak editor, H Achouba and Huieyen Lanpao editor, Hemantakumar Ningomba were also felicitated as part of the event.
