Imphal, August 18 2017:
Social Democratic Party India (SDPI), Manipur State, organised a sit in protest at Lilong Keithel, under Thoubal district, as a part of the Nation wide Resist Lynching India movement by the Social Democratic Party India (SDPI) today .
The protest has been organised to condemn the lynching of minorities and Dalits by cow vigilantes .
Speaking to media persons, SDPI Manipur secretary Riyajuddin Shah said that numerous Dalits and Muslims have been lynched since the last three years in the name of protecting the holy cow and added that some were even lynched in broad daylight .
He pointed out that such incidents have even been shared numerous times on social networking sites and alleged that instead of catching the culprits, the police and the authorities are harassing and arresting the victims and the oppressed .
It is shocking that these incidents are happening in a country which prides itself in being a democracy.
These actions are the total opposite of the term secular, which is included in Indian Constitution, Riyajuddin added .
He pointed out that the sit in protest has been organised as a part of the Resist Lynching India protest which was first organised by SDPI on August 1 at Jaipur .
Riyajuddin also said that a meeting will be organised at Classic Grande on August 25 in connection with the protest .
The protesters held placards with slogans like 'Stop killing minority in the name of protecting the holy cow' and 'stop lynching' .
