Imphal, September 08 2019:
Joint secretary of All India Kisan Sabha and former Tripura MP Jitendra Choudhury on Sunday alleged that the Modi Government has failed to elevate the condition of farmers.
Speaking to media persons at the office of Manipur Loumee Marup at Paona Bazar, Jitendra Choudhury alleged that the condition and living standard of farmers across the country are deteriorating under Modi Government.
The former Tripura MP, who attended the State Council Meeting and General Body Meeting of Manipur Loumee Marup (Sep 7-8), also accused the Prime Minister of favouring corporate houses over the farmers.

He alleged that many big corporate houses are now investing crores of rupee to gain control of farming sector.
Due to policies that do not ensure profit to farmers, many are selling their land to these corporate houses who in turn build industries on the land, he asserted.
"Time has come for all to join hands and protest policies that do not favour farmers and save shrinking agricultural land.
Many farmers have committed suicide across India due to poor welfare measures and policies.
We should fight for farmers rights," Jitendra said.
About 80 percent of the country's population are farmers.
And majority of the farmers do not own the land they till.
The two day State council meeting of the Manipur Loumee Lup deliberated various issues and took various resolutions to fight for farmers' rights, he said adding that the All India Kisan Sabha will soon launch its course of action for farmers' welfare.
Manipur Loumee Marup vice president Yumnam Ratan said that State council meeting adopted about 20 resolutions.
The resolutions include demands for proper conduct of assessment of drought affected areas and disbursement of compensation to farmers in a transparent and fair manner free from all forms of corruption.
The compensation allocated should be fair and Kisan Credit Card loan of farmers should be waived off, Yumnam Ratan said.
The meeting also resolved to pressure the Centre and the State Government for required correction, renovation and utilisation of Dolaithabi Barrage, Uyumpok Dam and other structures for ensuring adequate irrigation water.
All farmers including ones who do not have patta should be provided fertilisers under Government schemes, he added.
Manipur Loumee Marup with the assistance of All India Kisan Sabha is launching State wide protest demanding farmers rights in October, Ratan said.
