Sihai village hails Court order, retains title suit

Dismissing a plaintiff petition filed by the village head of Lunghar village and party regarding the case related to rightful possession of a land suit (Sihai Phangrei /Schedule B land), Civil Judge (Sr Division), Imphal East delivered judgement in favour of defendants K Luingam and party of Sihai village, Ukhrul.
In a press conference held today at Ukhrul District Working Journalists Association (UDWJA) office, Viewland Ukhrul, the villagers of Sihai village shared their satisfaction with the Court order which was delivered after nine years trial at the Civil Court, Imphal and dismissed the the plaintiff petition after minute investigation about the facts by the learned Judge.

According to K Luingam, Lunghar Village Headman L Wungnaoshang and party moved and filed a plaintiff petition at Civil Judge (Sr Division) Imphal East in 2009 against the order of Tangkhul Naga Long Court which is a Tangkhul Customary Court that delivered a judgement in favour of Sihai village to enjoy the possession of the land suit /Sihai Phangrei /Schedule B land after both the Sihai village and the Lunghar village were put to a challenge as per the Tangkhul Customary Law Court for rightful claim of the disputed land.
"The challenge was to remain immersed in the water for longer period of time by the villager of the two villages and the one who stayed longer inside the water will be declared winner of the challenge to enjoy the rightful possession of the suit land (Sihai Phangrei/ Schedule B land)", he maintained.
He further said that after both the parties mutually agreed to the challenge, it was executed at Nungshang Kong (river) in the presence of Tangkhul Customary Judges, representatives of both villages and observers in October 2008.After that, a Judgement was delivered in favour of Sihai village by the Tangkhul Naga Long Court, he asserted.
