World Heritage Site tag for KLNP likely

Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP) which is the only floating national park in the world would be nominated among probable World Heritage Sites within the current month.
UNESCO decided to nominate KLNP among probable World Heritage Sites after the State Government submitted a proposal to the Union Forest and Environment Minister to this end, informed a high ranking official of the State Forest Department.
Due consultation has been already done and KLNP would be nominated in the first tentative list of different places which would be declared as World Heritage Sites.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Union Forest and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar would make a direct assessment of KLNP which is 40 sq Kms in area who is arriving here on a two-day official visit on January 8 .
The Union Minister may also inspect Dampi Reserved Forest where a second home of Sangai is proposed to be developed.
Prakash Javadekar would also interact with jhum cultivators at Sanjenthong Forest office regarding the global climate change.
The Union Minister would also visit Loktak Lake.
