Ukhrul, September 30 2014 : The Hunphun/Ukhrul Women Union HSL today observed the 26th raising day cum education awareness campaign at TNL ground, Wino Bazar, Ukhrul district.

27 localities of Ukhrul town participated in the celebration which began with vibrant display of choreography by the womenfolk and a classical Tangkhul song by Theithei Luithui.

Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Dr Hrishikesh Modak, IAS, unfurled the HSL flag.

The Ukhrul DC speaking at the occasion as the chief guest congratulated HSL on completing its 25 years.

He dwelt on the role of women in social life and described women as the torch bearers of society.

Guest of honour Commandant of 41 AR Gaurav Bose stressed on women empowerment in building a developed society.

Womenfolk present an item at the HSL anniversary

The dignitaries inspected an array of stalls where varieties of locally grown vegetables, fruits, handicraft, flowers, traditional shawls were exhibited.

The celebration emphasised on higher education of Tangkhul women particularly, realizing the need of education.

Co-Convener Dr Lucy highlighted the objective of HSL Education Project.

"Even though this is at an initial stage, women will continue to strengthen in different field of education, by organizing career counselling, coaching centre or guidance and even awarding scholarship to the meritorious.

The income generated during today's celebration would be reserved for HSL education project," Dr Lucy asserted.

HA Wungrampan, headman, Ukhrul district urged for unity in society building and cooperation from the village authority.

During the programme, HSL president Agnes Shaiza expressed her gratitude to 41 AR and 6 MR for extending their utmost support.
