Contributions of Irabot recalled

The Jana Neta Irabot Memorial Trust (JIMET) and the Civil Society Organisation Jiribam organised the 118th birth anniversary of Jana Neta Irabot at the PWD Guest House auditorium today.
Dr Hamit Singh Pahuja, MCS Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam, O Mangi Meetei, President, Jana Neta Irabot Memorial Trust and S Tonubabu Singh, president, Senior Citizen Jiribam attended the programme as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Th Ketuki Devi, ZEO, Jiribam and Th Sarat Kumar Singh, Advisor, All Jiribam Working Journalists' Union (AJWJU) were the resource persons.
Floral tributes were also paid in memory of Jana Neta Irabot.
Prizes for organised events like march past, cultural performances were distributed.
JIMET's Man of the Year 2014 was awarded to Dr A Gouramani Sharma of Chingdong Leikai (Patchao).

Meanwhile, the North East Forum for International Solidarity, NEFIS, observed the 118th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot in the Department of History, Delhi University today.
People from different communities, students, activists and intellectuals from various communities like Naga, Meetei, Kuki and Bodo participated in today's celebration.
The event began with the offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Hijam Irabot.
Later, songs written by Irabot were rendered as part of the celebration.
The gathering stressed on the need to reclaim the revolutionary legacy of Hijam Irabot from sectarian organizations and emphasized on his view of International Solidarity for which he had worked all his life.
With students and oppressed masses of North East facing similar problems such as deterioration of traditional style of living, encroachment of corporations on their land, environmental degradation, racism and lack of educational opportunities owing to the spread of capitalist market in North Eastern regions, NEFIS said the legacy of Irabot has become more important.
The North East people should break away from the bureaucratic and community oriented organizations so that they can come together and fight for their common demands thereby carrying forward the real legacy of Hijam Irabot, NEFIS further said.
