ORDC organises farmer training

The Orchid Research and Development Centre (ORDC), Senapati district kick started a 3 day farmer training programme on "Commercial Farming of High Valued Dendrobium" on September 29 at FEEDS (Environment and Economic Development Services)-KVK premises, Henbung, according to a statement issued by the director of ORDC.
The programme was organised under the sponsorship of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
During the inaugural function, Dr N Jyotsna, PC of KVK-Sylvan gave the welcome address while Dr AN Rao, PI and Director, ORDC, briefed the gathering about the project and its objectives.
Chief guest Prof M Premjit Singh, Director Extension Education, CAU, Imphal lauded the initiative undertaken by the ORDC and FEEDS-KVK for organising the extension activities in commercial orchid hybrid farming for the welfare of local farmers.
He also advised the farmers' Self-Help Groups to avail the benefits extended by the ORDC.
H Kipgen, president, FEEDS, who attended the programme as the guest of honour elaborated on the establishment of the Foundation for Environment and Economic Development Services (FEEDS) .
The programme was participated by almost 80 progressive farmers from different parts of Senapati district.
Saplings of latest clones of Dendrobium hybrids imported from Thailand, Singapore would be distributed to the selected farmers on the last day of the programme.
Dr Dhanaraj Thokchom, Scientist, ORDC gave the vote of thanks and various orchid experts spoke and held practical demonstration.
