Imphal, January 24 2015 :
Extending warm greetings and best wishes to all the citizens of the State on the occasion of Republic Day 2015, Governor Dr KK Paul called upon all concerned to re-dedicate them-selves to the cause of the nation and uphold the democratic values enshrined in the Constitution for the progress and prosperity of the vast country.
The Governor in his message said that it was on Jan 26, 1950 that India declared itself as a sovereign, socialist, secular and democratic Republic having its own Consti- tution.
The nation has made rapid strides since then in all fields of development under the guiding principles of the Constitution.
Belying doubts harboured initially by the skeptics, India is a thriving democracy today earning the respect of the world.
"Our democracy has grown from strength to strength and the successive elections have shown the maturity of our electorate while the aspirations of the people are reflected in the ballot.
It is our bounden duty on this occasion to remember our founding forefathers who had the sagacity and foresight of dreaming about a modern India and pay them a richly deserved homage," the Governor said.
Pointing out that India is now acknowledged as a fast developing country and an emerging leader in the world arena, the Governor message mentioned that its immense youth power backed by modern science and technology promises a huge potential for taking the nation to greater heights.
"Our youths have been able to hold their own against the challenges or competitions form their peers of other countries and shown their worth.
At the same time though, there is the need for harnessing the country's youth power and channelising it in the right direction so that our youths become future assets in nation building," it said.
"Manipur with its youth population full of dynamism has also been marching forward as equal partners with the rest of the States in the nation building," the Governor noted.
