State National Games team leaves for Kerala

The first phase of the State contingent for the upcoming 35th National Games to be hosted by Kerala from January 31 to February 14 was flagged off Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh from Khuman Lampak Sports complex here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister wished the State contingent success and hoped that Manipuri players would continue to their brilliant performance for the State to emerge the overall team champion in the biggest sporting event of the country.
He noted that the hard work and dedication of the Manipuri players have been known by all.
It is because of these hard work and dedication that Manipur is today hailed as the powerhouse of sports in India.
To encourage the players, the Government of India is also providing jobs to players who secure gold medals in the National Games as per its Sports Policy.

The Chief Minister further noted that many of the players from Manipur are today working in Indian Navy, Army, CRPF, Railways, etc.
Budding players should also follow the footsteps of their senior so that Manipur could continue to consolidate its position in the field of sports, the Chief Minister exhorted.
The first phase of the State contingent for the National Games which was flagged off from today included 198 players for 10 different disciplines.
The disciplines are gymnastics, yachting, weighting, wrestling, rowing, women's football, archery, aquatics, shooting, squash and lawn bowling.
