Manipur Keithel Nupi Marup, All Manipur Nupi Marup, All Manipur Muslim Women�s Association, Kabui Mothers� Association and Women�s Association for Civic Action, Kangleipak today accorded a warm welcome to Gursaran Kaur, the wife of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Gursaran Kaur is presented at Imphal, accompanying her husband on his first maiden visit to Manipur.
One Phanek Mapal Naiba, one Wangkhei Phi and a Tribal shawl were presented to Mrs Kaur during the reception function held at New Market complex this afternoon.
The women�s bodies also jointly submitted a memorandum highlighting the problems being faced by the people of Manipur and women in particular to Mrs Kaur during the reception function held at New Market complex.
Some of the problems highlighted in the memorandum are lack of peace and development, deteriorating law and order condition, unemployment among the educated youths, human rights violation and fear of the people over territorial integrity among others.
Public demand for lifting Armed Forces Special Powers Act, development of historic Kwairamband Keithel, security along NH 39 and 53, lack of employment opportunities, taking up of special welfare programmes for women were also highlighted in the memorandum submitted to Mrs Kaur.
Chairperson of Imphal Municipal Council K Moirangjao Kabui was among other notable personalities present at the occasion.
PM thanked: Miyamgi Apunba Khongjang Thoupanglup, Kangla has expressed its gratitude to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on having handed over the holy and sacred Kangla fort to the people of Manipur.
Recalling the people�s movement for the last 40 years and numerous sacrifices made by the people for safeguard Kangla, Thoupanglup co-ordinator K Mangang categorically stated that politicians have no role in fulfilling the cherish dream of liberating the holy land.
