Manipur fencers continued their dominance winning team titles in all the three events in the girls section and the foil team title in the boys final of the National sub-junior & cadet fencing championship that concluded here today.
Manipur girls beat Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Punjab in foil, epee and sabre finals respectively while their boys team defeated Punjab in the sabre final for the top spot.
In the individual events, Manipur claimed all but one of the six titles.
Punjab's Baljeet Kaur claimed the sabre individual gold.
Results (Team finals): Boys - Foil: Manipur bt Assam 15-6; Epee: Punjab bt Assam 15-7; and Sabre: Punjab bt Manipur 15-12.Girls - Foil: Manipur bt Haryana 15-3; Epee: Manipur bt Tamil Nadu 15-10; and Sabre: Manipur bt Punjab 15-13.Our Sports Reporter adds: Manipur fencers added three more gold medal to round off the First Cadets and Sixth Sub-Junior National Fencing Championship with a rich haul of 12 gold, five silver and five bronze medals at Chennai Multi-Purpose Stadium today.
On the concluding day of the competition, girls epee team comprising of M Loidang, S Joymala, L Sonolata and Monika Elangbam won the gold while W Roji, W Reni, Daina and Joymala teamed up to grab the top honour in girls sabre team event.
The third gold of the day came through the combined effort of Loidang, Roji, Reni and Sonolata in girls foil team competition.
The boys quartet of Purnachandra, Rajeshwor, Premkumar and Sanatomba had to settle for the bronze medal in epee event.
