Leaders of the Opposition Political Parties Forum called on the Prime Minister at the Raj Bhavan this evening and submitted a memorandum which included demand for necessary action against two Ministers who have been accused of siphoning off huge amount of public funds.
The memorandum which were signed by the leaders of the Forum contained an open charge that two former Ministers who were in charge of the Works Department and the Tribal Development had siphoned off a huge amount of money released by the Central Government for developmental works in the State.
The memorandum while demanding a probe into the charges so that befitting action may be taken up against the Ministers concerned also informed that high ranking officials of the Secretariat including the Finance Department were also involved in siphoning off public funds without executing any work.
Moreover the memorandum urged the Prime Minister to officially announce the lifting of Disturb Area Status and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State during his stay in Imphal and further appealed to declare a unilateral ceasefire to facilitate peace talks with the insurgent outfits operating in the State.
Accusing the Ibobi led Govt of failing to protect its own citizens and also for the unstable law and order situation in the State, the memorandum said that the State Governmentt has failed to control even its own employees.
It also drew the attention of the PM regarding the Sericulture Project, rail link between Imphal and Toupul, development of Loktak Lake under a Central Scheme, construction of a stadium in each of the districts of the State, to start a special employment generation scheme, to develop the hill areas, development of the Nupi Keithel etc.
The memorandum also expressed its gratitude and satisfaction to the Prime Minister for handing over the Kangla fort to the public, upgrading Manipur University to the status of Central University and also for laying the foundation stones of Capitol Project and Jiribam-Toupul rail line.
