ICDP to be taken up in six districts

With the objective of strengthening co-operative movement which in turn will boost economy of the State, Integrated Co-operative Development Project (ICDP) will be taken up in six districts from this year.
According to a reliable source, the project which is a Centrally sponsored scheme is to be taken up by National Co-operative Development Corporation (NCDC) under Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare.
For the North East States including Manipur, full cost of the project will be borne by the corporation.
The one time project could be implemented for 4-5 years.
The six districts where the project will be taken up are Kangpokpi, Tamenglong, Ukhrul, Imphal East, Imphal West and Jiribam.
The districts were recommended by the State Government.
The recommendation was recently approved by NCDC.
The source said the State Government will choose a Project Implementing Agency (PIA) and prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for taking up the project.
In preparing the DPR, resources of the districts will be taken into consideration.
The Central Government will provide subsidy to the activities to be taken up for implementing the project.
The Central Government will also provide subsidy to the cost to be incurred in preparing the DPR, project implementation team, human resource development, training and setting up of State monitoring cell.
The project aims to develop agriculture, agro-allied and agro-based industries, cottage and household enterprises, diary, poultry, fishery, handloom, horticulture, sericulture etc in the six districts.
The project had already been taken up in Bishnupur in 1986-87, Thoubal in 1988-89 and Churachandpur in 1990-91, the source added.
