3 militants, Army Major killed in shoot out

Imphal, June 07 2017:
An army officer of 164 Brigade of the Territorial Army and three militants of NSCN(K) and ULFA(I) were killed in an encounter in Tizit, Mon district, Nagaland last night.
Based on an input, an operation led by Major David Manlun of 164 TA Naga was launched last night.
The security forces were in the process of establishing a mobile check post when the armed militants travelling in an autorickshaw rode past and on being pursued opened fire on the security forces.
Three militants and the driver died in the encounter, said a statement issued by IGAR (N) .
Major David Manlun made a supreme sacrifice while gallantly leading the operation against the militants.
Three jawans also sustained splinter injuries but are now in stable condition.
The mortal remains of 32-year old Major David Manlun was brought back to his native home in Shillong today.
Wreath laying ceremony was held at Assam Regimental Centre, Happy Valley, Shillong.
The late Army officer is originally from Churachandpur district.
David Manlun did his schooling from St Anthony's School and completed his graduation from the St Anthony's College, Shillong.
After clearing the Combined Defence Service examination, David was commissioned in the Naga Regiment in 2010 .
Large number of people were seen lined up on the streets as the army carried the cortege of the martyr to his home this evening.
Chief Minister N Biren has deeply condoled the demise of Major David Manlun.
'I pray that the Almighty gives his family the strength to withstand the irreparable loss,' said the CM in a statement.
