Imphal, May 27:
Issuing a stern warning, the proscribed KYKL today said that if any member of the MPSC or candidates are found indulging in corruption or favouritism and violating the norms laid down by the UGC in the selection process of 209 Lecturers, then it would not only impose heavy penalty which would prove a big burden on the family members but also award the death penalty.
In a statement, the outfit said that after the Cabinet decided to recommend the MPSC to select lecturers in October, 2006, its ONK has been keeping a sharp eye on the proceedings.
Though the outfit under its flagship drive, ONK has pulled up a number of corrupt officials in the Education Department and punished them on graft charges by shooting them on the thighs, knees etc, corruption continues.
This is nothing but inviting death, it added.
KYKL knows that corruption is a global ill, but that does not mean that we should blindly follow what others do, said the outfit and added that canvassing and greasing the palms of officers to get a job is akin to robbing the right of a more deserving candidate.
The KYKL will not always acknowledge the pleas and apologies after those found guilty of corruption are pulled up, said the statement and added that if society is to change for the better then the existing social mores should be changed.
As such, candidates who had earlier paid bribes for the selection of lecturers should withdraw the money paid while there is still time, cautioned the outfit.
In case such matter comes to the knowledge of the KYKL, the concerned people will not be spared.
Outlining the penalties that will be imposed, KYKL said even if matter of corruption comes after the candidate has been selected and joins duty, it will take the bribe money as well as stop the salary of the such candidates.
They will also be asked to resign.
Justifying their stand, KYKL said that they have adopted such measures so that below par candidates are not selected on the basis of corruption while the qualified ones are left in the cold because they do not have the financial strength nor the clout to get selected.
A number of students from Manipur have gone outside the State due to lack of infrastructure as well as the inability of the teachers to teach them their course effectively, said the statement.
To reverse the trend it is imperative that all Government colleges/schools should be equipped in such a way that new courses are opened and the vacant posts of teachers are filled by qualified and deserving teachers, said the outfit.
Moreover teachers who have entered service earlier will need to put in more efforts and keep their knowledge updated, it said.
Whether there are enough students in a school or not, teachers should attend to their duties, said the outfit and warned that if any teachers are found absent without any valid reasons ONK checks the attendance register, they will be penalised, which will include stopping their salaries as well as imposing hefty fines, KYKL added.
