State joins in paying homage to Kargil heroes

Imphal, July 26 2012:
"It is our duty to protect our hard earned freedom as well as to strengthen the unity and integrity of the nation', Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has exclaimed on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas held at the Secretariat complex here today.
The Chief Minister reminded that the Kargil war fought between the soldiers of India and the Pakistani soldiers in 1999 and Indian soldiers succeeded in driving out Pakistani soldiers who were intruding inside India territory.
In the war which went on for 74 days, 527 India soldiers sacrificed their lives for the sake of their motherland.
The incident as well as the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers would be remembered for centuries to come, the Chief Minister observed.
He further recalled that among the 527 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Kargil War, seven of the brave soldiers were from Manipur.
It is because of these 7 brave soldiers from Manipur that we are able to live with our heads held high.
As such the people of the state need to pay respect to them and remember them on this occasion.
The function was also attended by Home Minister Gaikhangam, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, DGP Y Joykumar and other top officials of the state.
