Imphal, July 26 2012:
Even as the state government has sent in Manipur Police Commandos to Moreh for opening a Unit to neutralize the presence of various UG groups in Myanmar and monitor their movements, people in Moreh have strongly protested against the move by blocking Imphal-Moreh road.
Following a decision of the state government to open a unit of Manipur Police Commandos at Moreh, in all six teams of Police Commando led by OC in-charge P Sanjoy proceeded to the border town.
Each team comprised 9 personnel.
However, as soon as the news of their leaving for Moreh spread, a public meeting was convened at Moreh by Hill Tribal Council at around 11 am today and unanimous resolution to protest stationing of Commandos in Moreh was adopted.

Reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao said that at around 3 pm today, Imphal-Moreh road was blocked at New Mongjang Village, around 5 kms away from Moreh Police station by around 1500 people, mostly Kukis and they were led by leaders of various organizations including Hill Tribal Council Moreh, Kuki Women's Union Human Rights, Kuki Chiefs' Association, Moreh and Moreh Youth Club.
They blocked the road by putting logs of woods and bamboos apart from making bonfire in the middle of the road.
The protestors used placards and festoons which read "No need for Commandos in Moreh", "Go back Commandos", "We want peace", "Don't break peace in Moreh Mr Ibobi" and "Where there is Commando, there is bloodshed", etc.
Owing to public unrest, the Commando teams, which have left from Imphal, have not yet been able to reach Moreh till late evening.
They are reportedly staying somewhere in between Tengnoupal and Lokchao.
A team of police personnel led by Priyokumar, SP of Chandel District too has rushed to the spot where the road is being blocked and to try to bring about a solution.
ADGP, LM Khoute is also presently at the spot.
A leader of the Hill District Council told Hueiyen Lanpao that there is no need for Manipur Police Commandos as there are enough AR, MR and Manipur police at Moreh at the moment.
The presence of Commandos in Moreh would worsen the peaceful situation prevailing in Moreh.
As such the government should revoke its decision of deploying commandos at the border town.
Until and unless, the demand is met, the road blockade would continue in addition to taking recourse to various other agitations.
