Imphal, May 24 2019: While NPF's Lorho S Pfoze emerged as the runaway winner in Outer Manipur PC, Inner Manipur PC witnessed a very tight contest between BJP's Dr RK Ranjan and Congress party's Oinam Nabakishore.

In Outer Manipur PC, the NPF candidate defeated his BJP rival Houlim Shokhopao Mate alias Benjamin Mate by a comfortable margin of 73,782 votes.

While Lorho S Pfoze secured 3,63,527 votes, his BJP rival could garner only 2,89,745 votes.

Congress candidate K James came third with 1,52,510 votes.

However, in Inner Manipur PC, only 17,755 votes separated INC's Oinam Nabakishore from BJP Dr RK Ranjan who eventually wrested the Lok Sabha seat.

Altogether 2,63,632 votes were polled in favour of Dr Ranjam while O Nabakishore secured 2,45,877 votes.

CPI candidate Dr Moirangthem Nara came third with 1,33,813 votes.

One day after getting elected, Dr RK Ranjan along with Rajya Sabha MP and State BJP president K Bhabananda left for New Delhi today to meet Central leaders of the BJP today.

Elected NPF candidate Lorho Pfoze along with the four NPF MLAs of Manipur also left for New Delhi today.

Meanwhile the Congress has congratulated the NPF's Dr Lorho S Pfoze and BJP's Dr RK Ranjan for winning the Lok Sabha elections and urged them to perform in the interest of the people and the State.

Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhawan today, MPCC president and former Deputy CM, Gaikhangam said that it is surprising that the BJP won by a landslide in the election and added that the peoples' mandate is to be respected.

However, the Congress is still shocked and in disbelief at the massive mandate received by the BJP, he added.

Congratulating both the NPF and BJP candidates, Gaikhangam said that if the party in power had not resorted to mass rigging and booth capturing, the Congress candidate might have won.

He then lauded the party workers, MLAs and leaders and also appreciated the people for giving a large number of votes to the Congress candidate, adding that even if the Congress is defeated, it will not back down and instead will keep working diligently.

On the other hand, the Congress candidate in the Inner PC, O Nabakishore also congratulated the two successful candidates.

He also appreciated the people of Manipur for giving a large number of votes in his favour.
