Moirang, February 15 2016:
Protest against the renaming of Thangting subdivision as Kangvai subdivision under the aegis of Khousabung Subdivision Demand Committee (KSDDC) continued unabated at Khousabung village of Churachandpur district.
The protesters have been demanding the renaming of the subdivision as Khousabung subdivision as per the common wish of the people covered by the new SDO/BDO circle.
Protesters drawn from different communities of the area today staged a sit-in at Khousabung village market shed.
A candle light vigil was also held for the fourth consecutive night at the protest site.
Earlier in the day, Chairman of ADC, Churachandpur Langkhanpau Guite, who was present at the protest site, assured the protesters that he would convey their grievances to the authority concerned at the earliest.
The ADC Chairman was joined by Executive Member of the ADC, Thangkho-suanmung and ADC/Ccpur Member Seilenmang.
Chief of Khoirentak Khuman village also joined the sit-in.
KSDDC handed a memorandum to the Chairman at the protest site.
At the same time, KSDDC secretary S Gouneu reiterated that the Committee is all set to launch intense forms of protest if the State Govt fails to fulfil its demand to review the Cabinet decision renaming Thangting as Kangvai subdivision.
A democratic protest has been launched at Khousabung since the State Cabinet gave its approval for the renaming of Thangting as Kangvai on Feb 10 .
Meanwhile, Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO Thang-ting block) has endorsed the demand for renaming Thang-ting as Khousabung sub- division and locating its headquarters there.
In a statement, the KSO said that the subdivision should be renamed as Khousabung and its headquarters should be located there as per the wish of the people constituting the new SDO/BDO circle.
The KSO said that the demand is for 'equitable' development of the area.
It said that Kangvai has the only Govt higher secondary school under Henglep AC and other developmental projects are already concentrated in Kangvai area besides its close proximity to Churachandpur district headquarters.
In order to deliver justice and bring equitable development, the Govt should reconsider its decision to locate a subdivisional headquarters at Kangvai and shift it to Khousabung, the KSO demanded.
