Imphal, April 13 2013 :
Chief Mi-nister O Ibobi who is also in charge of Finance Department has stated all the Treasury offices of the State have been successfully computerised.
He was speaking at an an-nual gathering of Directorate of Treasury and Accounts at 1st MR banquet hall today.
In the course of the gathering, cash prizes were given to sub-treasury offices of Moreh, Moirang and Jiribam as the best Sub-Treasury offices in terms of submitting monthly accounts most expeditiously to the Accountant General.
Another feature of the ga-thering was distribution of ECS Payment Award and e-Norm East Award to Treasury officers.
Computerisation of all the Treasury offices was a commendable achievement and it has been successful in checking many malpractices, Ibobi stated.
The practice of obtaining pensions even after the death of pensioners has been effectively put to an end with the computerisation of Treasury Offices.
Efforts are on to pay old age pension after transferring money to bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
For the valley districts, almost 80 per cent of the pensioners have opened their bank accounts.
Likewise, it is being looked into to pay ST/SC/OBC scho-larships through personal bank accounts.
This would effectively do away with involvement of middlemen.
Informing that he called on and urged Union Rural Development Minister to imple- ment Direct Cash Transfer scheme in Manipur, Ibobi in-vited proposals from concern- ed officials for appointment of necessary staff and procurement of equipment which are lacking in Treasury offices.
Speaking at the gathering, Art and Culture Commissioner RK Nimai stated that departments have been facing a common problem of shortage of staff which would lead to a very awkward situation after some years.
The Government need to fill in the shortfalls in terms of manpower in different departments, Nimai said.
Principal Secretary (Finance) Varun Mitra was also present at the gathering.
