Imphal, April 13 2013 :
Terming the decision of Delhi University to enforce Hindi/MIL in under-graduate courses in institutions under it as 'a nonsensical decision,' the Manipur People's Party has sought the intervention of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and to prevail upon the DU authority for the revocation of the decision which is nothing but 'undemocratic' and 'Talibanic' in nature.
Highlighting that liberal education system in country like India could only cope with the challenges of the country's diverse linguistic, ethnic and demographic composition, the MPP represen- tation to the PM signed by its President, N Sovakiran Singh said the DU decision is all the more an antithesis against the ethos of the country.
Pointing out that DU is a university with a history associated with the nation buil- ding process of modern India and students go there to imbibe a national outlook with the hope to compete for top positions in the education system that are available there, the MPP also posited that DU must understand that it is not a local or regional university that caters only the local students but students from across the country including NE.
"The policy to enforce Hindi/MIL to the undergraduate students would only do disservice to the students community of the country and the nation," the MPP representation said.
