Seized wildlife products disposed

Imphal, August 08 2016:
The Divisional Forest Officer, Central Forest Division disposed 991 kg of sea cucumber and a deer antler by setting on fire at Mantripukhri today.
PCCF PN Prasad said that on August 31, 2014, 25 bags of sea cocumber weighing around 991 kg was brought by a flight from Kolkata to Imphal.
One Sikander Singh Gill (44) from Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar who came to collect the sea cucumber was arrested on September 1, 2014, he said.

On April 24, 2015, the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West convicted Sikander with simple imprisonment of eight months and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 under Section 51(1 A) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972 .
On July 25, 2016, the PCCF (WL), Govt of Manipur vide his letter No 3/6/2016-WL directed the DFO/C to dispose the seized sea cucumber by burning in the presence of media, police and advocate etc.
The deer antler was seized on May 2, 2016 at about 10.15 am while doing the normal checking of the baggage and luggage of the passengers at the X-ray point by the staff of the Air Asia from a passenger travelling by Air Asia in Imphal-Guwahat route.
The seized deer antler along with the accused person Nagendra Das was detained.
