Army to blunt inter-UG clashes

Even as the meeting of Strategic Operation Group (SPG) held today assessed the overall law and order situation of the State, the army has been pressed into service to check clashes between rival armed groups in Tamenglong district.
It is said that the SPG meeting convened this afternoon was presided by Chief Secretary DS Poonia at his office chamber and was attended by Principal Secretary (Home) Dr Suresh Babu, DGP Y Joykumar and top officials of the Army, Assam Rifles, CRPF and BSF.
An informed source confided that recent spate of attacks against the security forces figured prominently at the meeting with the participants expressing their respective opinions and suggesting to neutralise the UG offensive.
After the said meeting authorities concerned of security forces have been advised to take appropriate measures to check sporadic gun-fights in Tamenglong and to provide a secured environment to the civilian population.
Information has been received about army authorities present at the meeting stating that army have already launched specific operation at different locations of the district.
The meeting further discussed on the recent threat by the UG conglomerate CorCom against migrant workers and non-locals staying in Manipur and measures to step up security arrangement, said the source while adding that the meeting also mooted on further extending the 'suspension of operation' pact with Kuki armed groups beyond November 22, the last official day for the expiry of the tripartite agreement.
