Imphal, November 07 2012:
On several demands, Advocates of High Court of the State have announced an indefinite cease-work strike from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons today at the office of the High Court Bar Association, president of the association N Kumarjit said the indefinite ceasework strike has been launched to press the demand for constitution of seven Judges when a separate High Court for the State is installed.
He added that all the seven Judges be appointed from eligible/deserving Advocates of the State.
Kumarjit said that the proposed separate High Court of Manipur is planned to be set up with only four Judges.
Stating that the plan to set up a separate HC with only four Judges is unfortunate, Kumarjit said that it is not possible that only four Judges would be able to run a full-fledged High Court.
Even though the Chief Minister himself had pressed for constitution of the new HC with minimum of five Judges, the plea has been turned down, he said.
He further stated that the appointment of Judges in the new HC from other State should never be endured while adding that deserving Advocates of the State should be given the chance for elevation.
The demands would be put forth to Prime Minister and Union Law and Justice Minister.
