Jiri, emerging entry point of foreigners

A total of 32 foreigners with valid documents have been allowed entry to the State through Jiribam Foreigner Check Post (FCP) from the period January 2012 to October 2012 while 154 migrants were pushed back due to incomplete documents during the same period.
OC of CID (SB), Nandababu Sharma informed that the movement of illegal migrants/foreigners through Jiribam is under strict vigilance.
According to information culled from the FCP, Jiribam, seven foreigners with valid documents entered the State through Jiri in January, five in February, four in March, eight in April, three in May, two in July, one in September and two in October.
38 foreigners were pushed back from the FCP in August, 42 in September and 74 in October.
They were sent back with the instruction to arrange valid documents from Assam side.

Foreigners who were entertained through Jiribam FCP during the period were mostly Japan, USA, UK, Israel, Slovenia, Australia, Spain, Belgium, Dutch, Germany, Austria, Finland, and Italy nationals.
Most of the migrants who were denied entry did not possess valid documents to proof their Indian citizenship.
Meanwhile, there has been report of migrants influx through travel agencies/counters at Silchar and Jiribam.
There have also been reports about frequent harassment of genuine migrants near Keithelmanbi check-post along NH-37 .
Family members of migrants from Cachar in Assam aired complaint that State security personnel were involved in frequent harassment of genuine migrants who were heading to Imphal.
They complaint about several harassments of migrants coming from Assam including physical assault, detention of vehicles, detaining vehicle owners, drivers in lock-ups, and plundering their belongings and money.
