Imphal, November 07 2012:
Reacting against media reports over suspension of three councilors of IMC from their respective posts by Chairperson N Raghumani as baseless, a group of councilors today charged the Chairperson with trying to tarnish the image of councilors who are against him.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here this evening, M Suvaschandra, Chairperson of Public Works Committee of IMC, said that the media report over removal of three committee chairpersons of IMC namely L Arunkumar of Ward no 4 (Finance & Assessment), M Suvaschandra of Ward no 16 (Public Works) and Ksh Umesh of Ward no 21 (Public Health & Sanitation) from their perspective posts is baseless.
He asserted that IMC Chairperson Raghumani has no power to remove committee chairpersons at his wills and such removals are to be passed by the majority members of the house under relevant rules and regulations.
But providing such wrong information to media is probably a scheme to tarnish the image and career of the councilors who want a deserving Chairperson.
Contending that Chairperson Raghumani is not a deserving person to hold the post, the councilors demanded that he should resign from the post of Chairperson of IMC.
If he continues to remain in the post, no councilor of IMC would be able to do any developmental work in the city.
So, it would be nice if Raghumani voluntarily resigns from the said post, they said.
It may be recalled that a group of councilors moved a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson on 5th of this month.
