Imphal, March 06 2020: One Assamese man who came to the State on a business trip has been confined to the isolation ward of RIMS after he was found suffering from fever by health workers stationed at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.

The Assamese coming from was picked up in an ambulance and taken to RIMS isolation ward this afternoon.

The man went to Dhaka and came back to Kolkata on February 28 by air.

He landed at Imphal from Kolkata at 12.10 pm today.

The Health Department has already collected details of all the passengers who came together with the Assamese man in the same flight.

The other passengers would also be tested, if necessary, said the source.

The State's preparations to deal with COVID-19 in case the disease is detected in the State were put to test when the Assamese man was brought to RIMS isolation ward by officials of Health Department from the airport in an ambulance and also when necessary procedures were taken up at the isolation ward after wearing full protective gears, claimed the source.

Health Director Dr K Rajo Singh claimed that the case does not meet the case definition of COVID-19.Today's case is being managed on the line of influenza, like isolation, symptomatic treatment for fever and cough etc, added Dr Rajo.

Significantly, there is no confirmed case of COVID-19 in Bangladesh till date.

A sample has been already collected and it will be sent to National Institute of Virology, Pune for necessary COVID-19 test, informed a source.

On the other hand, out of the two samples sent from the State to the institute a few days back, NIV Pune has rejected one while the other is being tested, said the source.

Meanwhile the Health Department has started due process of opening two-bedded wards at Moreh, Mao and Jiribam.

Moreover, the TB Hospital at Wangkhem, Imphal East has been identified for quarantining people of Imphal in case such a need arises.
