HRI condemns

The Human Rights Initiative (HRI) has strongly condemned the alleged assault of officials of CAF&PD by two persons including the owner of an oil pump recently.
Demanding strict action according to law against the offenders, HRI in a statement said the alleged assault happened on April 17 at Heibok Oil Pump located at Chandranadi Toupokpi.
On April 17, Haobam Bobby, Civil Supply Inspector and Leimapokpam Ibotombi Singh, Area Officer visited Heibok Oil Pump at around 9.30 pm as part of an inspection carried out to regulate distribution of POL at oil pumps in Imphal East and Imphal West areas amid the lockdown.
One Laishram Surjit, identified as brother of the owner of the pump, L Suresh, allegedly assaulted the two officials on duty holding a "small gun" when he was told to obey the inspection procedure, claimed HRI.
The owner of the pump, L Suresh too joined his brother and further 'assaulted' the officials causing injuries.
H Bobby received injuries on the nasal area and his left leg while L Ibotombi sustained injuries on his face and head.
Subsequently Bobby was treated at Padma Medicare, RIMS road, HRI claimed urging Government to take up appropriate action against the alleged offenders.
Urging authority concerned to seal Heibok Oil Pump with immediate effect, HRI also appealed the State Home Department to ensure safety and security of the officials on duty during the lockdown due to coronavirus.
It also expressed sympathy to the injured staff and wished for speedy recovery.
