Education Minister Francis Ngajokpa paid a surprise visit to all the educational institutions of Ukhrul district and the only Govt college in the district, Pettigrew College today.
During his interaction with teachers, lecturers, Principals and students, he urged the students to give primary importance to their education and assured that his Ministry is there to do anything for the development of education.
Ngajokpa pledged to address all the grievances of the part time lecturers and lack of teaching staff, infrastructure and upgradation of BSc science stream of Maths and Physics in Pettigrew College.
The Ukhrul Pettigrew College part timers and student body submitted a memorandum to the Minister urging him to release their basic pending pay for the last eight months and to improve the infrastructure of the college.
The Minister's attention was also drawn to the lack of transportations and teaching faculties at the college.
The Minister assured that Rs 2 crores will be sanctioned in all the dist very soon to modernize colleges with residential facilities and promised that "transferring any teacher from hills to valley will not be accepted at any cost but transferring from valley to hills will be entertained and encouraged whatsoever".
Meanwhile MLA A Aza made a surveyed the construction of the Dist Hospital with an estimated cost of Rs 2246.46 lakhs from the Non-Lapsable Central Pool Resource fund.
The MLA inspected the three proposed sites at Ukhrul during his visit.
The MLA said that the two storeyed hospital will be constructed on 5 acres of land and will have staff quarters categorised into type V, IV, III and II.
