Reportedly whisked away by unidentified gunmen in the night of May 21 from Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai, Army men claimed to have arrested Thounaojam Ratan from Bishnupur Bazar last night and handed him over to Bishnupur PS.
Ratan was reportedly arrested by a combined troop of 10 AR and 6/8 GR at around 9pm from Bishnupur Bazar as a SS 2nd Lt of the banned UNLF and subsequently handed him over to Bishnupur PS this morning.
Quoting report furnished by the Army, police source said a country made pistol and three live rounds were recovered from his possession.
At the same time, family members and locals came to know the whereabouts of Ratan today while a sit-in protest was going on at Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai Parking today demanding the safe and immediate release of Ratan.
Locals also strongly denounced the abduction of Ratan by unidentified gunmen from the locality and the subsequent report about his arrest from Bishnupur Bazar by the army.
They said that Ratan was a former member of a proscribed militant organisation and ran a shop after retiring from the outfit.
Thounaojam Ratan alias Sana (37) of Keibi Heikak Mapan Awang Leikai was reportedly whisked away by some unknown gunmen coming in a Gypsy and a car from his locality on Monday at around 7.30 pm.
