Imphal, July 20 2010:
BJP, Manipur Pradesh to day demanded resignation of the Chief Minister, O Ibobi on moral grounds criticizing that the SPF government under his leadership has failed in all respects.
The government has failed to ensure availability of essential commodities to the people even after the economic blockade was lifted a month back.
There is no government plan to cope with the artificial scarcity of goods and to control price rise, president of the state BJP, Sh Shantikumar charged today.
He said, even though people are suffering a lot due to non-availability of essential goods, cooking gas, vehicle fuel, etc.
and the prices of goods soaring beyond the affordable limit of the common people, not a single word on taking up initiatives to ease the plight of the people was expressed in the House in the ongoing Assembly session, he blamed.
For the rich and well to do family, the condition is somewhat better but for poor families and daily bread earners, the place is like hell and could maintain their families.
Prices of essential commodities have sky rocketed.
Businessmen fix the prices of goods at their own will.
No one interferes in the selling goods at the prices fix by them, Shantikumar alleged.
When students bodies took up steps to control prices at the government had failed to check the rising prices the government prevented them from doing so by using police force.
As no matter concerning the people are being discussed, the ongoing Assembly session has turned into a session only to allow withdrawal of funds from the government exchequer, he lamented adding that even the demand for grant of the departments was passed without any discussions.
Observing that even though the government is saying taking up works for improvement of NH-53 by sending the manpower, no physical progress is being seen so far, Shantikumar asked why the government is blaming the BRTF only today when they had never taken any interest on this route for such a long time.
BJP could not air the plight of the people in the House as it has no representative in the state Assembly but they are trying their best to air the grievances of the people in both the House of Parliament, the president said recalling the recent visit of a team led by opposition leader Sushma Swaraj in the state to take a first hand account of the situation prevailing in the state.
Government under the leadership of the Chief Minister, O Ibobi has failed to deal with the grievances of the people.
He should resign from this post on moral grounds the president demanded.
He also strongly condemned the act of the police towards the MPP leaders and workers staging peaceful demonstration against price hike, scarcity of cooking gas and non-availability of essential commodities.
