Imphal, July 20 2010:
Infuriated over the abduction of one of their colleagues, PG students of RIMS closed down the Casualty Ward of the hospital for sometime this afternoon.
A group of RIMS students including three PG students and another ten doing internship were returning to Imphal from Rural Health Centre of Saikot, Churachandpur today.
On the way, they were halted by some unidentified persons at about 3.15 pm at Molnom located about three kms from CCpur district headquarters and abducted Kunal Chakravarty, a PG student from Tripura.
The team was returning after picking up 10 students doing internship from Churachandpur in a bus that belongs to RIMS.

The armed persons then questioned who the seniors were and as out of the three PG students, the two others were girls, Chakravarty was taken away by the armed persons.
Immediately after receiving information about the abduction, RIMS students closed Casualty Ward at about 4.15 pm and gheraoed the administrative block demanding rescue of Kunal Chakravarty within 24 hours.
Kunal Chakravarty was fortunately rescued by a team of Bishnupur police commandos and Assam Rifles at the general area of Saikot later.
Police source said that the abductors may belong to a group which is under the SoO agreement between the State Government, Centre and a number of Kuki armed groups.
Police source said that the motive of the abductors may not have been serious, for they found the medical student on the road.
A case has been registered at CCpur police station in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, RIMS Superintendent, Dr Y Mohen has urged the PG students to open the Casualty ward as the abducted doctor has been rescued.
