As part of the year-long golden jubilee celebration of Maram Students' Union (MSU), a tree plantation campaign has begun from today in schools and other places in Senapati district headquarters and Maram area.
The campaign is being launched in partnership with Indian Army to create environmental awareness towards arresting the impact of climate change and global warming among the youths.
The tree plantation drive was launched during a simple function attended by Brig Anil Chauhan of 59 Mountain Brigade as chief guest in the mini-stadium, Senapati district headquarters.
MSU president Pungdi Celestine and other public leaders were also present at the occasion.
Brig Anil Chauhan inaugurated the tree plantation drive by planting a sapling inside the campus of mini stadium.
From there, Captain Khan of 22 Assam Rifles joined hands with the Principal and students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Maram in carrying forward the drive through plantation of saplings inside the school campus and other places.
As part of the drive, around 3000 saplings have also been distributed among the schools and clubs including Don Bosco College, Maram; PP Christian English School, Lairouching; Maram High School, T Khullen; Mount Carmel, Maram; Rangtaiba Memorial Institute, Maram Bazar; Katomai Youth Club, etc.
The saplings provided include Gulmohor, Evergreen, Hollock, Yongchak, etc.
