Abducted PG student of RIMS rescued by police

Police today rescued one out of four persons including two minor boys kidnapped by suspected underground elements at different places of the state.
Bishnupur police who, no sooner had they received a report on a post graduate student of RIMS being kidnapped by suspected cadres of United Kuki Liberation Army (UKLA) from Molnom area along Tidim road, than swung into action and rescued the kidnapped student from Kangvai area of Churachandpur district.
The three others, including two minor boys, kidnapped by suspected underground activists belonging to different outfits in different places in Imphal East district are yet to be traced out by the police.
Service in the emergency ward of the RIMS hospital was abruptly halted following news that a post graduate student of RIMS had been kidnapped.
The kidnapped student was Punal Chakraborty from Tripura.
Service resumed after police rescued him at dusk from Kangvai area.
Dr Punal Chakraborty, presently staying at the RIMS Internees' Hostel at Churachandpur was kidnapped by suspected activists of UKLA while he was returning to his hostel with 12 other students of the Institute in a bus (MN01-1862) of RIMS at about 4 pm today.
Around seven armed militants, suspected to be cadres of UKLA, stopped the bus on the way near Molnom village and forcibly led Dr Punal Chakraborty away at gunpoint.
Before taking him away, the gunmen also asked for the superintendent of the hostel, police report said.
Later, students of RIMS stormed the office of the Director of the Institute.
The students discussed the matter with the Director and the Superintendent.
But when the discussion was going on, reports of rescue of Dr Punal Chakraboty was received.
Police said, personnel of Bisnupur district police commandos, who launched search operation under the supervision of SP Jayentakumar in areas of Moirang and Churachandpur, succeeded in rescueing the kidnapped the student from Kangvai area.
On the other hand, around six suspected armed activists of KCP (MTF) City Meetei reportedly kidnapped Yumnam Manoba (21), son of Y Megha of Yourbung Maning Leikai, a worker of Health Minister, Ph Parijat, at about 10.30 pm yesterday when his father was not at home.
Family as well as locals alleged that Manaoba was taken away by the armed activists on the demand of contract works at JNIMS and their "quota" of appointment of doctors in the hospital from Health Minister, Ph Parijat.
The kidnappers also demanded Rs 10 crore from the Minister, the family and local residents said.
Father of the kidnapped youth is not only an active worker of the Health Minister but also is the secretary of CPI Lamlai local council.
Regarding the kidnapping of Manaobi, a public meeting was convened at Yourbung.
The meeting resolved to appeal to the concerned to release the youth safely and without any condition.
The meeting also expressed strong resentment at the act of kidnapping an innocent youth for ransom.
Meanwhile, two minor students namely Lairellakpam Nganba (12), son of L Ibochouba of Chingarel and Ngangbam Kuber (10), son of Ng Rajen of the same locality were allegedly kidnapped by some unknown persons yesterday at about 12.30 pm after calling them out from the playground of the locality.
A statement of the Mana Engkhol Chingarel, Kangla Awang Club signed by its secretary L John today lamented that the security forces have not taken any step to rescue the two children.
They had already lodged written complaints with the Lamlai police station as well as with the 39 Assam Rifles yesterday itself.
